Balut Elementary School - Last September 9, 2016 the Municipal Council for the Welfare of Children and the Local Government of Pilar spearheaded the Barangay Day at Brgy. Balut I & Balut II.
The program officially began with an opening prayer led by the school principal of Balut Elementary School, Ms. Janette Afable. This was followed by a welcoming message from the barangay captain of Balut I, Ms. Sandy Enriquez.
The second part of the program consists of a series of lectures on various subjects where Mayor Alice Pizarro gave an overview on the value of the event.
The first lecture was about Responsible Parenting Ordinance authored by the Sangguniang Bayan of Pilar. The ordinance was briefly discussed by Hon. Fatima Enriquez, Chairman of the Committee on Health and Social Welfare.
She reiterated that the ordinance is important because, “…pwede pong humantong na makulong ang magulang dahil sa pagpapabaya sa kanilang anak.” With adequate knowledge about the said ordinance, the residents of Balut I & Balut II were now able to prevent such cases to happen.
The next lecture dealt with Family Planning and the Effects of Teenage Pregnancy tackled by Ms. Lilian Javier, a midwife. It was then followed with a discussion by Mr. Ace Vicedo, the Tobacco Program Control Coordinator on Anti-Smoking. He mentioned that quitting is not the only step that should be done, eating a balanced meal with fruits and vegetables should also be considered.
Ms. Haidee Gunio, the Local Civil Registrar gave the participants a brief background on the importance of birth registration. She also provided the requirements needed for those who plan to apply for late registration of their birth certificate.
PO2 Levy Lomibao discussed the role of police in the Special Protection of Women and Children. Highlighting the event was a briefings of Mayor Alice Pizarro about Solid Waste Management where she emphasized more on the importance of knowing the different types of wastes and how to properly segregate them.
SFO1 Alberto Ramos, Jr. gave the last part of the lecture by relaying to the residents the basic Fire Safety Tips and the assurance that once their help is needed, they will arrive as soon as possible. He also gave the contact number (0932-518-0215) of the Bureau of Fire in Pilar.
Meanwhile as this developed, there were also other activities simultaneously happening in one of the classroom where PSInsp Karl Sanchez and SPO1 Elvin Bunio discussed to the barangay kagawad and barangay tanod the Lupong Taga-Pamayapa and their mandate, focusing on maintaining peace and order within their area. While SPO4 Edith Solomon conducted an eye refraction to the residents of Balut I & Balut II and Ms. Zenaida Arcena, a midwife assigned at Balut conducted BP monitoring and random blood sugar testing among the residents.
The program ended with a closing remarks from Vice Mayor Marino Caguimbal as it was then followed by a raffle and a boodle fight.
Also present during this event were Hon. Miguel Solomon (ABC President and Brgy. Captain of Balut II) and other members of the Sanggunian, Hon. Edgardo Lulu and Hon. Cipriano Paguio.
