HEALTH UPDATE (February 2014)

As part of its campaign in the promotion of healthy lifestyle and prevention of non-communicable diseases, various barangays in the Municipality of Pilar, Bataan launched Hataw sessions which kicked off on February 2, 2014 at Barangay Wawa. The activity was graced by Honorable Alice D. Pizarro, Municipal Mayor together with the members of the Municipal Health Office headed by Dr. Cherrielyne Naguit. The activity was made possible thru the efforts of Barangay Captain Winston Infante and his council. Other barangays also started their Hataw sessions thru the collaborative efforts of the barangay councils and the Nutrition Students from the University of the Philippines, Diliman.

These UP Nutrition students had their immersion program in the Municipality of Pilar for 7 weeks which started last January 13, 2014.  They provided community lectures and trainings to Barangay Health Workers and Barangay Nutrition Scholars for the promotion of good nutrition in the community. On February 10, 2014, they organized a training on OPT (Operation Timbang) Plus for health workers at Pilar Government Center, Alauli, Pilar, Bataan. This training aimed at reviewing the health workers on standard weighing of children 0-71 months of age for their actual OPT sessions.

It is hoped that the Hataw sessions will be a regular habit amongst the people in various barangays and that more people will be encouraged to do regular exercises as part of their daily routine.
