In celebration of International Women’s Month this March, the Municipal Health Office launched Alkansyang Kawayan Project. With its theme, “alkansya – barya mo buntis ay sa akin mo ilagak, katulong mo ako sa iyong panganganak”, this project aimed at helping indigent pregnant mothers on their first trimester to save enough funds for their delivery. Fifty pieces of alkansyang kawayan were provided to mothers from Barangay Liyang, Diwa, Panilao, Poblacion, Wakas South, Landing, Wawa and Del Rosario. These alkansyang kawayan will be kept by the mothers and the amount that they saved will be recorded by their respective midwives during their regular prenatal checkup. The benefits of having an alkansiyang kawayan will be reviewed on the last quarter of 2014 when most of these mothers are expected to give birth at the birthing facility of the municipality.
