11th Mt. Samat Diocesan Pilgrimage, Brave and Blessed

Our heroic town witnessed once again the bravery and blessedness of our past heroes through the hundreds of pilgrim participants, both the youth and adults, for the annual Diocesan Pilgrimage at Mt. Samat, Diwa, Pilar, Bataan last November 29, 2014. The pilgrimage was made possible thru the initiative of the Diocese of Balanga in collaboration with Pilar LGU spearheaded by our ever-supportive Mayor Alicia D. Pizarro, PNP, Bataan Medical Society, radio groups, and other religious and civic organizations.

The flock, led by our beloved Bishop Ruperto Santos, through the active and dynamic coordination of Rev. Fr. Noel Nuguid, head of the youth sector of our Diocese of St. Joseph, was all lifted in spirit as they are gathered at the shrine of the heroes. This year’s theme, “Laykong Pilipino, Bayani at Banal” indeed took shape through the inspiring activities and uplifting Holy Mass celebrated by the Bishop along with all the parish priests all over the province.

Bishop Santos, despite the rain that poured while giving his homily, stressed the need to be brave to choose what is right and what is better. He stated that for the youth, becoming a hero is when you are brave enough to say and stand for what is morally upright and follow the right path towards holiness and success. He encouraged the youth to study well , to keep chaste, to serve their families and communities, and to become loving and helpful towards their fellowmen.

Despite the rains, the people just stayed at the ground, sharing umbrellas and mats to keep dry. It was a touching scene how everyone seemed to long to hear God’s word through the Bishop and to be concerned with one another to be protected from the rain. Love and peace was abounding in that place that early Saturday night.

The celebration ended with colorful and amazing fireworks which everyone enjoyed. Slowly, all pilgrims went down the historic mountain full of hope, love, and bravery as they were charged to become laymen inspired to bring Christ to others.
