Hon. Alicia Pizarro’s SOMA, A Breakthrough Report of a More Progressive Pilar

December 15, 2014 would be a well-remembered day for all Pilarians. This is the day our brilliant Mayor Alicia D. Pizarro had her SOMA (State of the Municipality Address) in front of the municipal building. Her address tackled her very many accomplishments from January to November of this year. She has been in office for the past 1 year, 5 months, and 15 days.

Mayor Alice was proud to report the very harmonious working relationship between the executive and legislative departments of the municipality. The two departments work together towards the accomplishment of the many programs helpful for the development and benefit of the people of Pilar.

She talked about empowering the Municipal Development Council where all baranggay captains, members of different civic organizations such as the group for fishermen headed by Mr. Rafael John Paguio, RIC headed by former Municipal Councilor Aurea Iguico, Kabalikat headed by Mrs. Marites Barde, Senior Citizens group headed by Mr. Andy Villar, Association of Day Care Workers headed by Mrs. Josefa Flores, Overseas Filipino Workers Family Circle headed by Mrs. Imelda Desales, Parent Teacher Association headed by Mrs. Charito Madriaga, Pantawid-Pamilya Parent-Leader Mrs. Francia Sicat, Association of BHW headed by Mrs. Rhodora Garcia, Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines headed by Mr. Alfred Palustre, Dr. Marita Navata, and Mr. Owen Fuertes representing the businessmen circle, and Mrs. Michelle Caraig as representative of our beloved Cong. Tet Garcia, all work together for the continuous progress of the municipality.

Mayor Alice further mentioned the many programs and projects included at the 2015 GPBB such as infrastructure support to agriculture and fishery, marine reserve and fish sanctuaries, OTOP store express, sustainable livelihood program micro-enterprise development, and many more.

She also tackled other important projects and programs for the health sector, education sector, peace and order services, and many others. Worth mentioning is that Pilar is now a smoke-free municipality. Another is the upcoming project for a public cemetery being coordinated with the Development Bank of the Philippines. Also, the different school buildings, road construction, riprapping, diversion canals and many more. Job fairs to help the people of Pilar get good jobs was also reported.

Different awards bagged by the municipality in the education sector was also reported including the Regional Mathematics Competition, Regional Science Competition, Regional Quiz Bee, and many more.

Mayor Alice was happy to announce that the municipality bagged second place at the Search for the Most Functional Local Council for the Protection of Children and third place for the Search for Outstanding Person With Disability-Friendly Municipality.
