First-ever Municipal Buntis Congress in Pilar’s Successful Kick-Off

Last August 25, 2015, 100 pregnant mothers from the 19 barangays of Pilar were assembled during the first ever Municipality of Pilar’s Buntis Congress. This is in line with the celebration of Breast Feeding Awareness Month and Family Planning Month.

The Rural Health Unit of Pilar headed by the very diligent Dr. Cherrielynne E. Naguit spearheaded the event with the ever supportive Mayor Alicia D. Pizarro. Pilar-RHU aimed to create awareness among the pregnant mothers about the various helpful services they can avail at the health center and assisted them to get enrolled at the LGU-sponsored Philhealth membership.

Da. Naguit acknowledged the attendees who were welcomed by Councilor Edgardo Lulu. Vice-Mayor Marino H. Caguimbal greeted the pregnant mothers with his motivating message. Mayor Pizarro stressed how these mothers are very lucky to have access to free services because of Philhealth membership. She also inspired them in their journey towards motherhood and the importance of spacing their pregnancy.

The first part of the program was comprised of lectures given to the to-be mothers. Ms. Lilian Javier, midwife, talked about Breastfeeding, Ms. Grace Laya, also a midwife, shared about Family Planning, and Ms. Marciana Mendiola, Pilar RHU’s midwife lectured on Newborn Screening Test.

On the second part of the program, games and raffles were enjoyed by the pregnant Moms. DOH representative Dr. Belina Ibasco was also present to grace the event. Snacks were served and the RHU staff distributed 100 buntis kit packages. The kit consisted of things the expecting mothers will need during and upon delivery such as cotton, baby oil, soap, and alcohol among others. The kit also has Ferrous Sulfate vitamins which they direly need during this period.

Ms. Maricel Aquino, RHU Nurse hosted the event and also gave the closing remarks.
