Last September 19, 2015, the Municipality of Pilar’s Sangguniang Bayan, department heads, employees, PNP-Pilar, and baranggay officials headed by the ever-supportive Hon. Alicia D. Pizarro along with other government agencies and organizations as well as private entities joined together for the annual International Coastal Clean Up Day.
Some of the government agencies, offices, and organization present at the coastal areas of Pilar were the assistant coordinator for Pilar, the Provincial Cooperative and Enterprise Development Office staff headed by its Officer, Mrs. Azucena E. Sugatain, Provincial Tourism Office headed by Ms. Christina Banzon, PGB Management Information Service Office headed by Mr. Geoffrey Loyola, Bataan General Hospital headed by Dr. Glory Baltazar, Department of Science ad Technology – Bataan headed by Ms. Rosalie Ona, Cooperative Development Authority represented by Mr. Nelson Evangelista, PCDS, Bataan Cooperative Development Council headed by Chairman Erickson Reyes, Capitol Employees of Bataan MPC management staff headed by Manager May A. Hizon, and Balut Elementary School teaching force and students headed by its school head, Mrs. Janette B. Afable.
The coasts cleaned in Pilar were in Landing, Wawa, Balut I, Balut II, and Sitio Maasim. The volunteers were clustered and assigned to these four coastal areas. Muncipal Engr. Hazel N. De Guzman was the diligent over-all coordinator for the activity initiated by the Office of the Provincial Governor via Memorandum Circular No. 1 signed by Hon. Albert S. Garcia, the dynamic governor of the province.
In this memorandum, Gov. Abet Garcia stressed that while the province envisions being the preferred location for eco-industrial investments, the value of the environment should not be sacrificed.
International Coastal Clean Up – Philippines stated, “Trash has infiltrated all reaches of our ocean causing innumerable adverse impacts on ocean life and coastal communities. The problem can seem overwhelming but it is entirely preventable. During the past quarter century, volunteers have assembled through the International Coastal Cleanup to improve the condition of the beaches and waterways and raise awareness about the trash problem. Now, ocean advocates worldwide are developing practical approaches that strengthen the science, promote sound policies and empower people to engage in action for trash free seas. “
Mayor Alicia D. Pizarro expressed her appreciation to the support of every volunteer who gave his/her time and effort in helping clean the coastal areas of Pilar. She advocated to the Pilarians to be more responsible in keeping the coasts of the town clean and safe at all times.
