Barangay Day at Diwa

Diwa, Pilar – Another Barangay Day was conducted last September 30, 2016 at Diwa Elementary School. 

 

The program began with an opening remarks from Barangay Captain Emmanuelito Jaraba. He gave emphasis on the importance of the event saying that, “ito ay para sa kapakanan ng ating barangay”. 

 

The Municipal Council for the Welfare of Children (MCWC) led the residents in a zumba fitness dance program which served as  a brief exercise of the locals. After this, Ms. Jenny Lee Casin (OIC-MSWDO) introduced what the MCWC is all about. She also gave an overview of what the event will be comprised of. 

 

The series of lectures began with SF01 Joel Pajares discussing Fire Safety Tips to the residents of barangay Diwa. He said that, “ang sunog ay kadalasan nasa bahay natin, hinihintay lang na magkamali tayo”. In order to prevent fire-related incidents, it is important to instill discipline amongst the residents so as to remain responsible and safe.

 

This was followed with a discussion on the Special Protection of Women and Children by P01 She Ann Aviso. Next was Hon. Cecilia Garcia, Committee Chairman on Education, Arts & Culture, who talked about the Responsible Parenthood Ordinance authored by the Sangguniang Bayan of Pilar. While Ms. Haidee Gunio, the Local Civil Registrar, tackled the Importance of Birth Registration  and Requirements for Late Birth Registrations.

 

Mayor Alice Pizarro discussed to the residents the importance of Solid Waste Management. She enumerated the five (5) types of waste: Biodegradable, Recyclable, Holcimables, Residuals, and Special Waste. The first three (Biodegradable, Recyclable, and Holcimables) are left in the care and responsibility of the barangay, while the last two, (Residuals and Special Waste) are for the municipalities. She said, “lahat po tayo nagkakalat, sino po ang maglilinis? tayo rin”. After this, she then gave the residents tips on how they can reuse the recyclable wastes that can be found in their households.

Lastly, Ms. Lilian Javier told the residents of their efforts for their Anti-Smoking campaign, like putting down signages that promoted and encouraged smoking. She also gave the residents suggestions on how they can quit smoking and what benefits they will gain from doing so. Simultaneously as the lectures are proceeding, PInsp Karl Marlo Sanchez discussed the role of the Lupong Tagapamayapa to the barangay officials. 

 

The closing remarks was given by Vice Mayor Marino Caguimbal. This was followed by the raffle and the boodle fight. 

 

Also present during the event were Hon. Cipriano Baguio and Hon. Edgardo Lulu.
